Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from low-income high poverty homes and attend our campus, which happens to be a Title I school. They're an enthusiastic bunch with a lot of school spirit and are willing to give their all to make the school a better place!

The students have a lot of school spirit, and this much is evident in the various school events we do, such as our annual (albeit crazy) Senior Video, Senior Grad Night, dances, pep rallies, and everything in between.

We also have extensive opportunities to engage with real world technology, primarily that in the broadcast video medium.

My Project

As stated before in numerous projects, one of the goals I have sought out over the past few years is to increase the level of technology in our school all while giving students the opportunity to use high tech equipment while bringing their ideas to life.

It's imperative for students to gain experience utilizing the newest and greatest technology in their quest to find out what major in college would best fit their set of skills.

Over the years, we have received everything from drones to gimbals to studio lighting and green screens. Through the use of each of these (plus many more) students have recognized how difficult a production of a video can become, as one cannot just set a camera up, start rolling, and expect to come out as good as Gone with the Wind. When students are utilizing such equipment I often hear, wow this is a lot of work for 30 seconds worth of video, but upon seeing the finished project, they are not only happy with how it came out, but are willing and eager to complete the next project as well.

These materials (the crane jib and monitor) will help students add to their already robust skillset and prove to be essential in the creation of future projects, which includes doing a school wide video for recruitment into our accredited accelerated program, as well as various projects including, but not limited to, various sporting events, our graduation, and our end of the year Senior Video. These items will help students recognize their own strengths and will allow them to possibly engage in such majors in a post-secondary institution and beyond.
