My Project

In my film journalism class, students are discovering firsthand the magic of making films. With limited resources, they complete short documentary segments that are published in our YouTube student news show.

My school is multicultural.

Children of immigrants or immigrants themselves, my students are challenged economically and academically. They struggle to support their own families through part-time jobs or through household responsibilities. The combination of socioeconomic and academic struggles creates a great challenge for my community of students. Despite their economic hurdles, my students are avid learners who utilize whatever available resources they have to complete objectives. This year alone, they made incredible projects with the limited resources available to them. They were excited to tackle the film challenges that I gave them, even if it meant struggling with outdated or nonfunctional technology.

Unfortunately, the headphones we are currently using for audio monitoring are a mess. They are almost 10 years old and worn and torn beyond limits. They are technically mostly functional, in that when my students' film they can still hear their interview subjects--but I know that soon these headphones won't work, and even worse, their morale is decreasing because of the general decrepit nature of the headphones. I know they deserve better, but I need your help to make it happen.
