This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am the new teacher-librarian at 2 California Title I Elementary Schools. We have diverse student bodies who I am just getting to know. I feel like I hit the jackpot because the teachers, administration and support staff are phenomenal! I have a feeling that the students will be, too.

I would like my libraries to focus on a positive growth mindset that incorporates expanding literacy skills.

Walt Disney said, "If you can dream it, you can do it." I want every child to walk out of my library feeling that way.

My Project

The classroom teachers at my school sites have expressed their interest in doing class read-alongs with Wonder. I would like a class set of Wonder to allow teachers to check out a class set so every student in the classroom will have a book.

Besides exploring and learning about literature, this book will help teach students about kindness.

In a time time when bullying seems to be on the rise, this book can help students navigate emotions and recognize negative triggers. It is important to teach our students the power of diversity, tolerance, and kindness so they can enter the adult world with the tools to make it a better place.
