This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

How do you show how smart you are if your body doesn't work like other people's? You use your eyes!

I teach a class of high school students with severe disabilities in a center-based setting.

This Title I school serves the students who have the most significant disabilities in our school district. We have around 55 students on campus, six in my classroom, who have intellectual disabilities, sensory deficits, orthopedic disabilities, and autism. These amazing students have a great ability to learn - they just need teachers who understand what they need.

My Project

Instead of using a mouse or touchscreen to interact with the computer, the MyGaze eye gaze tracker lets people who can't move very well use a computer. The MyGaze sees where the student is looking and uses that as a "click." In this way, the student can do anything from playing games, to answering questions, to using Facebook! The MyGaze tracker works similarly to Stephen Hawking's communication device and I'm hoping that my students' worlds will be opened up as wide as his!

This eye gaze tracker and software will open up a whole new world for my students with significant orthopedic impairments and Cerebral Palsy.

I know that my students have a lot to say- they just need a unique way to say it!
