Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students have a variety of different circumstances and challenges with distance learning due to their various living situations. These situations for many make it difficult to focus because some are taking care of younger siblings, things may be stressful at home because of increased financial worries and for many, they have to stay inside all day because of their neighborhoods aren't safe to sit outside or just take a walk.
School is a routine and for many a time just to be a child.
They miss seeing their friends, walking in the halls, sitting in class with a teacher and the noisy cafeteria. Some of my students said at first they thought it would be fun to stay at home and do school work but now say they really miss having a teacher right there to make sure they do all of the assignments. The positive side of this whole craziness is seeing those students excited to spend time with each other and the teachers through live videos.
My Project
As a teacher working with students that have disabilities and or are English Language Learners, visuals are so important. Having the opportunity to observe how to draw shapes and solve math problems while making connections is crucial.
A document camera allows better visibility, is great for tactile learning, and allows for easy creation of video lessons.
Now combine that with great lessons from Teachers Pay Teachers and I will have lots of variety and opportunities to engage and support distance learning. Having a document camera would certainly make live lessons easier along with having the flexibility to purchase lessons from Teachers Pay Teachers. Having access to a document camera, I could simply have the assignment displayed and we could work on it together showing steps while engaging and looking at work. While a voucher to purchase creative and attractive lessons from TPT would help so much.
The benefit of using the document camera is that the students can see and follow along as I demonstrate.
We use a variety of platforms and interactive tools for distance learning, but we are missing the opportunity to have real-time demonstrations while looking at examples without having to switch back and forth on screens.
