My Project

I have 14 extraordinary students in my life skills class at NMS. My students' disabilities range from autism, intellectual disability, and communication disorders. My students are fun, smart, and great people to know. I strive to teach them the skills they need, to be as independent as possible.

Cooking is an important life skill!

My students don't always want to try new things because change is hard, but when they are the ones cooking and making their own snacks and meals, they are excited to try them. At the start of this school year, I inherited an old outdated oven. It wasn't long before I realized that this oven/stove was not going to meet our needs.

Having a new stove/oven to be able to teach the students to cook and bake, would be instrumental in teaching them independence.
