We ART The World... Motivated Learners Creating Mindful Masterpieces!
Help me give my students their own artistic canvas full of their inspirations and representations enhanced with a plethora of odds and ends representative of each student.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Have you ever thought how boring life on earth would be without ART? ART is literally in the word Earth itself… “eARTh”. I am proud to teach mindful middle schoolers in grades 6-8 from all backgrounds with active imaginations. I want them to use their skills to share their identity with the world. Our class motto is we give ideas life. As global learners, my students are absorbing a lot of what is happening around them. They must be taught how to channel their emotions and turn them into mindful strategies of self expression. My students have to tell a story and are encouraged to breathe life into their own idea for expressing their vision. Students study how others have spoken… through art… then are challenged to speak in their own way...artistically. Regardless of a person’s skin-tone or intellect, each student has an opportunity to express their own identity in their own masterpiece, whether it is a picture, an edited photoshopped picture, or other artistic expression.
A artistic canvas created by a student can be a powerful tool in giving students a voice in the world, after all Earth without ART, is just “eh”.
My Project
My Project is a project within itself.
For years to come, students will have their own ARTistic canvas representational of them in their middle school years: Motivated Learners Creating Mindful Masterpieces.
I want an ARTistic Collage to be showcased and displayed as part of each student’s exit from my class, Picture Perfect Publishing. By adding more artistic values to my curriculum, I am helping students create a voice in their world. Incorporating more hands-on ART centered assignments into my STEAM centered class will aid in giving my students a vision. As a final product, I want my students to have a “messy” yet fun experience and create a canvas that showcases their photography throughout the year along with 3D artistic painting of themselves and other random artifacts befitting of who they are. I am asking for acrylic, glitter, and water paints because they are beautiful paints to work with within the classroom, plus they are easy to clean up and are long lasting. They would enhance our ARTsy canvas collages perfectly.
Canvases would be the medium we use for this particular assignment as a way to showcase our students Artsy collages in gallery form. Final works would be displayed and shared by students, giving them another modem of self expression.
Finally, artistic canvases will be enhanced with a plethora of odds and ends representative of each student, which is why I am requesting general crafty items and scrapbook paper.
I can see the layers of creativity forming now! For years to come, students will have their own artistic canvas that is representational of them in their middle school years.
