My students are the essence of capable. They are inspring individuals who face a lot of adversity. 100% of my students receive free breakfast and lunch as well as Friday blessing bags to prevent hunger over the weekend. The come to school without the appreciation of education. They come here first to be loved and taken care of.
Once we are able to teach them about love we can begin to teach my students about school.
100% of my students have come to me reading below grade level. Many of them start the year with significant behavior challenges. Even with the cards they have been dealt they transform into the most beautiful butterflies. They matter!
My Project
My students are learning to understand that everything is worth something.
I use a ticket reward system in my class that teaches children the ideal of earning and saving.
They earn tickets for good behavior, kind deeds, exceptional work etc. Each month the tickets can be exchanged for an item. We refer to this as "buying time." Over the years I have taken class votes to figure out the most "prized incentives." Those are the items I have selected for my students.
This year we have a new cricut machine in our classroom. In addition to exchanging tickets for snack items they will be able to exchange tickets for cricut making (they create items and sell them in our school)
