It is my joy to work with students that come from very diverse backgrounds. My school is a special place. At our Title 1 school, over 90% of our students qualify for free lunch. All faculty and staff are committed to providing our kiddos a positive, creative learning environment.
My kindergartners are creative learners and thinkers: they thrive through engaging, motivating opportunities.
They are curious learners and work hard to develop problem-solving and collaboration skills, in their everyday activities. Working in teams and partnerships, our students are building social skills and not only learning how to work with others, but are academically learning from each other. Working at a STEM certified school, our students are using hands-on learning to build experiences that will prepare them for the future.
A favorite part of kindergarten is learning to read and listening to stories. We practice our reading skills by reading familiar stories multiple times and practicing retelling those stories.
Retelling stories builds a love and an excitement for reading: this love of reading transcends into students wanting to learn to read.
My students need storytelling boards and storytelling kits to practice retelling skills. These boards and kits would give my students a concrete manipulative they could use to practice the skills we are learning. Students would have different stories and/or poems to choose from to practice retelling. These storytelling kits each have 5 stories and/or poems. Students would work in small groups retelling familiar stories or creating new stories using the characters in the kits. We look forward to having these new storytelling boards and kits in our classroom.
