My school is one of the truly diverse public schools in New Orleans, a real reflection of the city and its people.
Our school offers the Montessori program and, therefore, we free the child's potential, aim for lasting peace and a love for learning.
My classroom is unique; it is an all kindergarten version of an early childhood Montessori classroom. However, I am AMS Early Childhood certified and incorporate and use as much of Montessori practices and ideology as possible. We have practical life, sensorial, language/reading, math, geography, and cultural studies areas in the classroom. During work time, the students are free to choose and receive lessons in all areas.
Ms. L. is my fabulous TA, and we are a community above all, respecting and taking care of one another. The students take care of the classroom environment, as well as take on responsibilities and progressive academic materials. Their curiosities are bursting at the seams and luckily, we are encouraged as teachers to invest in our students' interests.
My Project
My students need biology, zoology, and botany materials and physical science and geography books to study like scientists! Children are natural observers. They are fascinated by the phenomenon found in the natural world. Naturally attracted to science, with these science materials my young students will start to think like scientists.
These Kindergarten students will collect information and continue making observations by having these hands-on experiences with botany, biology, and physical science materials!
