My Students

Do you know what it feels like to go to Disneyland for the first time and then have to go back home with only great memories and no souvenirs? That’s how my 2-3rd grade Special Day class students feel. After being exposed to technology in the classroom, they go home where there is a lack of it.

Most of my students have no computer access outside of the classroom.

Not exactly what a wonderful group of 8 and 9 year olds deserve. Just when they have been very excited to connect to the Internet, work with interactive reading programs, use an electronic SmartBoard, and visit the computer lab, they go to a home with no technology access. For them, school is the only opportunity they have to work with a computer or any type of technology for that matter. Each student comes with the challenges of various learning disabilities as well as low socioeconomic families. I can only imagine how much their enthusiasm in reading will grow if they had some sort of access to technology at home with interactive reading books.

My Project

My students need 2 Kindle Fire tablets to help them read and increase their enthusiasm in reading for fun in and outside of the classroom. A Kindle Fire tablet is the perfect solution to light up their fire in reading! All my students will have the chance to take it home for a day. They will work with numerous digitized stories, reading fluency programs, connect to educational websites and view pictures and interactive reading lessons. The children’s engagement and enthusiasm in reading will increase and hopefully boost their confidence about reading as well.

My children will be able to enhance their eager minds with all the reading resources downloaded to the Kindle Fire and on the Internet.
