This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is full of bright, gifted and well-rounded students. They come every day excited to learn something new. This will be the beginning of their 4th-grade year, in a new class with me as their new teacher. I want to give them a fulfilling and wonderful year of learning that inspires them to push themselves to be everything they hope to be and more.
My students are coming with a voracious appetite for reading!
Yes, they love to read and they know that reading is the key to being successful in life. They also understand their Lexile Measure for reading determines what grade level they are on. All of my students get excited when they know they have met or exceeded their reading Lexile measure for the grade level they are in.
My Project
Reading is in a national crisis especially in the urban community that our school serves and although many of my students read below their grade level they have a yearning to read every day. A classroom library would allow my students to have a choice of books that are on their reading level, will improve their fluency and accuracy in reading and will increase their Lexile measure thereby improving their reading skills.
The majority of my students are African-American and they rarely see themselves in literature your donation to our project would provide love for reading amazing literature and pride within my students.
The books that I have asked for are books that my students can relate to the characters and will give them hope of becoming anything they dream to be. It would be an awesome gift to our classroom and to their academic success.
