We Are Kind and Mindful and We Will Reuse and Reduce
Help me give my students resources to teach them to be mindful about our Earth and environment and be able to teach them how small changes in our classrooms help us be more environmentally friendly.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our Earth and environment are so important to any student at any age and grade level. This project will help me have conversations with my kinder students about simple ways we can make a difference in our everyday lives to help our Earth. My school asks our parents to provide a water bottle for their child each day. To reduce the small or normal-size water bottles being brought every day, I will provide plastic cups that the students can use daily to fill with water and drink after recess or physical education. The water filter and cups will make it the process of getting a quick drink of water as we need it as a whole class.
Teaching my students about using and reusing resources such as cups, book bags, and dry-erase boards instead of other plastic materials and paper worksheets and how simple changes make a difference over time will be a valuable life lesson I aim to teach every year.
The book bags will be reused every year to store the books the students read and take home daily. This will eliminate the zip-lock bags that I used to use. Dry erase boards will not only make activities more hands-on, but they will also reduce the paper an activity would have normally used. The plastic envelopes will be used when I print, laminate, and make a station something I can store and use for years to come.
