Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are wonderful first and second graders who are eager to learn. My school district is urban and very high poverty. My children come from broken homes, the foster care system and some have lived in shelters. Many of them have experienced some form of trauma within their short lives already. The school provides free breakfast and lunch for 100% of the students. For my students, school is something they look forward to. Despite whatever is going on at home, they know school is safe and they enjoy learning new things each day. Even when they are having a tough day, my students put in their best effort into the work we are doing. They are learning both academics and how to have appropriate social interactions with peers in my classroom. They all work hard every day to do a good job and make my classroom and the school the best it can be.
My students are like a family and work together to ensure our classroom is a safe and enjoyable work environment.
Our classroom community is great, but we are in a large city where our families need more support. Please consider donating to my project.
My Project
My project will be reaching special education students in both first and second grade. The inspirational quote decals will help build community and encourage my students to try every day to reach their full potential.

Community is important for my students to feel safe, heard, and loved within the academic setting. For some students school is their stability. I want my students to want to come to school every day and to enjoy learning.
Prize box materials will promote positive behavior within the classroom. Each week on Friday's my students will have an opportunity to trade in their tiger tickets earned for exhibiting positive behavior in order to earn a prize from the prize box.
The bracelets correlate with the character traits of the responsive classroom. Each month we have a character trait to focus on. I have posters of these same character traits in my room. I will be going over the character traits when we talk about our classroom community and how we should be acting in the classroom, in the school, and in the world. Once students start earning bracelets the goal is to motivate the other students to do actions to show the character trait of the month so each child will end up with a bracelet for each character trait.
The listening center is an integral part of our reading block centers and I am in need of both a listening center as well as books/CDs for my students to read. My students are struggling readers and will greatly benefit from being able to listen and follow along to a book. I want to promote the importance and enjoyment of reading.
