This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at the most wonderful school. These students are not just a blast to work with, but they are genuinely nice people. They are a compassionate, hilarious, brilliant, and talented group of kiddos. I came to a school that virtually had no theatre program. They stepped up and are integral to the program because they had never done a show before last fall.

These kids deserve a theatre program they can be proud of.

Their hard work shows with every line of dialogue they say in their plays, and their love for the art form is evident every single day.

This year, we are producing four shows. Our first one was in October of 2021 and was (finally) our performances of "10 Ways to Survive the Zombie Apocalypse". Our second play was an absurdist piece and was our performance piece for the UIL One-Act Play Middle School level. Our third play will be a comedic drama. Our fourth play will be a first for us, as it will be our first student directed play!

My Project

I am requesting assistance with the items in question because we will be learning how to make costumes in theatre in the coming school year, and these items will help facilitate the process for our students. Making a costume without a dressform or a mannequin can be very difficult, and with a few items that professionals use, it will make the process much easier for my students to learn how to sew and make a professional looking costume.

Sewing is a skill that one can take with them throughout life.

It is a vital skill to have when one has finished school and moved on into adulthood. From mending a pair of pants, to building a full costume for a play or a cosplay, having access to the proper tools will be vital in helping a student achieve their highest potential. The items requested will greatly help me in teaching them these skills as well as helping facilitate in learning how to properly utilize the items in a real world situation.
