Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school is located on the South East side of Stockton, California. The majority of our students are low income and live in the housing projects directly in front and or around our school. Free breakfast and lunch is provided for all of our students. This will mark my fifth year teaching Transitional Kindergarten at my current school site.
In a couple of days, I will be welcoming 4-year old students into my TK classroom.
I am so excited! We have so many things to learn together this year and I can't wait to meet them.
I have been blessed with the opportunity to help educate and prepare my TK students for Kindergarten and I can't wait for the year to begin!
My Project
Many of my students have never colored before coming into my class. This is shocking to me. Many have never used different art materials. When we start using watercolors, markers, and colored pencils in my TK class, my students become so excited! They feel like mini artists.
I did not major in art, but I would love to learn how to teach art to my students.
Through the use of the art resource books, I want to learn more about art, so that I can expose my students to art and art materials that they wouldn't normally get to use (and that I wouldn't normally use). I want to learn alongside them as we all grow and become artists together.
At the young age of 4, my students are artists in the making. Through the use of the art book resources, art canvases, art easels, acrylic paints, paint palettes, paint brushes, and oil pastels, we can deepen our learning about art and learn how to use different art mediums to create our masterpieces!
