We Are all One, but Many...

My students need a Cricut Explore Air and a Heat Press and materials, to create sense of belonging during this last year of elementary by making t-shirts with our class motto and school mascot.

My Students

Our Title I School has 900+ students with a free lunch rate of over 90%. Most of the students in my classroom are English Language Learners and have learning disabilities. Along with the difficulty in learning, many struggle to focus during class. They are so energetic that they get easily distracted during class. Most of my fifth grade students come from low-income backgrounds and come from single parent families. Technology is very limited at our school but our students are eager to learn about everything. Many students don't have access to technology at home. At school, we aim to provide my students the inspiration to be lifetime learners in any area of their choice by offering them the technological tools and skills they need via hands-on opportunities to develop 21st century skills.

My Project

This project idea came about because my students have inspired me to reflect on building a sense of community in our classroom. I realized this is possible with a Cricut Explore Air, a Heat Press machine and the materials, which include vinyl for the iron ons and some tools to remove them the shirts. Since most of my students come from a low socioeconomic background and can't afford the t-shirts sold at school to promote school spirit. Some students try to participate by wearing any shade of blue, although our school color is more of a royal blue. The act of my students trying to be involved in school spirit days, gave me this idea to help them be part of the greater community of our school.

My students are motivated to attend school and eager to be part of the classroom and school community.

I want to foster that motivation by making t-shirts for my fifth graders so that they too can wear our school mascot shirts on Fridays and on field trips. The Cricut machine and the Heat Press and the additional materials will bring me closer to my goal of fostering a sense of belonging.

Through your donations, my students will not only be filled with joy but also will develop a sense of belonging as a class, and to the greater community of our school.
