I teach students that are in third, fourth and fifth grade in a special education classroom. My students have been diagnosed with Autism spectrum disorders or other developmental disabilities. My classroom serves children with social and communicative disabilities as well as sensory processing disorders.
Sensory is a big part of our school day in order to self regulate themselves as well as meeting all of their sensory needs.
The sensory area will benefit all of my students' sensory stimuli as well as serve as a calm, safe and relaxation corner.
My Project
Having access to a fully enriched sensory area will allow my students to be provided with the sensory stimuli they need throughout the day, whether it be self regulation, relaxation, or to develop and engage their five sentences. Each student has their own sensory stimuli and with your donation, each of these products will meet all of my students' needs.
The bean bag chairs will allow for relaxation while the weighted blanket will serve as self regulation in applying pressure to certain stimuli.
The crystal lamp, prisma light and liquid tile will allow my students to engage and develop their some of their five senses. A safe sensory environment will build up their confidence as well as their ability.
