My third grade students live in beautiful Central Oregon. They loving playing outside in the snow! They get excited about learning new things in 3rd grade: chapter books, science, multiplication, and division tend to get them talking. My students are very good with technology, they've had lots of practice on Chromebooks. They love helping around the classroom and are always eager to do their "jobs." They love art, many of them would just sit and draw all day if they could. There are also several that are very interested in learning cursive this year. I love how excited they get about school. I love seeing their many different strengths inside and out of the classroom setting.
My Project
My 3rd grade students will be participating in a project we call: The Wax Museum. Each student will choose a person (from the past or present), they will read a book about this person to learn as much as possible about them, and then they will actually "become" this person for their presentation.
They will dress like them, act like them, and speak as if they are that person for an evening when parents come up to them.
They will be standing in front of a poster that they’ve created about their person. When there is no one to present to, they will be frozen in place as if they are part of a Wax Museum. I want to make sure that they have many different people to choose from by giving them a wide variety of biographies at their reading level.
Our electric pencil sharpener also broke, so this project would help us get a new sharpener, as well!
