This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach second grade, and the best part of my job is learning alongside such curious and hardworking students!

My students are a resilient and hardworking bunch, and they are eager to be in school after over a year of distance learning.

Our focus is maintaining strong routines and preparing diligently for the rigors of 3rd grade and beyond!

My Project

After over a year of remote learning, our return to school has been a welcome change. Students are back in class and we are doing all we can to keep school routines strong and the learning fresh and exciting even in the midst of a lot of uncertainty. Still, after spending a portion of kindergarten and first grade in remote learning, my second graders are still in need of developing their fine motor skills.

Activities like cutting, gluing and painting have been crucial so far this school year in helping kids feel confident in their abilities and have done wonders to improve kids' motor skills.

This project will provide my students with high quality watercolors, brushes, and art paper. Through another grant, we have secured oil pastels, so all of these materials together will help kids create art and engage in STEAM projects to enrich their learning, provide them with multiple modalities to see themselves as thriving students, and support their other academic subjects through visual art.
