Watercolor Exploration

My Project

I would like my middle school art students to have the chance to explore and experiment with watercolor paints as they create a ‘Blob to Art’ project. Students will be using salt, plastic wrap, paper towels, and Q-tips to problem-solve and see how they interact with watercolor. Students will paint watercolor ‘blobs’ all over their paper in either a cool color pallet or a warm color pallet. Once their papers are dry, students will go in and use an ink pen to find images out of the abstract shapes they had created.

The goal of this lesson is to enable students to master watercolor techniques, understand the use of cool and warm colors, and express their creativity through the application of these skills in unique and meaningful ways.

-Students will be able to apply the terms ‘cool colors’ and ‘warm colors’ in their art.

-Students will be able to explore watercolor techniques.

-Students will be able to use watercolor to create an artwork that allows creativity and freedom.

Watercolor paints are a great medium for middle school students to experiment with and can be used for many different projects throughout the years.
