My students need water smocks and floating toys to experience different activities in the water table. They love to play and pour in the water table and need some more higher level activities.

My Students
I work with the youngest learners in an urban preschool setting. My students are a diverse group of young learners ages 3-5. Most come from high poverty homes. 78% of the students at my school qualify for free and reduced lunch.
I work with some typically developing students but I also have students with many special needs.
Most of my students have speech and language needs, students who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing, students with autism, motor concerns, English as a New Language and/or sensory concerns.
My Project
Water Play gives many opportunities to develop fine and gross motor skills across age ranges. Children will increase their fine motor skills and hand eye coordination through actions like pouring, squirting, scrubbing, stirring and squeezing. Water also allows opportunities to explore and make discoveries. Adding floating toys, letters, measuring cups that reinforce academic skills, gives the students an opportunity to learn in a different mode. Can you imagine the new vocabulary and discussions among the children. (drizzle, pour, damp, wet, seize) ? Water play also increases energy and is calming for students. Water Play builds the foundation for understanding various scientific concepts and math concepts! Plus-how fun is it to play and learn using water.
