My Students

I teach 3-5 year olds who come from a variety of backgrounds. They come to school with a variety of at risk characteristics, ranging from poverty to the transient nature of being in a military family (we have a Navy base in our school district). But they all come to school wanting to learn and needing the first basic level of the scaffold of learning.

My students are curious and funny!

They are always investigating ways to make things happen or exploring "What will happen if I...?" They are continually making new friends and learning new concepts through exploration and play.

My Project

Preschoolers explore volume, weight and measurement through sand and water play. By having two separate tables, we can do this with a variety of materials. Water play also lets us explore concepts such as sink and float and color changing.

Water play allows us to explore key math and science topics that we will need to be successful later.

It also helps us improve our social emotional skills as we learn to take turns, share and play together with our friends. It teaches us to follow directions and helps us to learn to be responsible with our belongings every day.
