Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students vary in age from 4 to 14. This project is for my elementary students. Being an art teacher, I see the creativity that exists within every child and their ability to express that creativity. Our school is very unique; our administration realizes the impact art has on learning and development. People often say, “I am not creative, I can’t even draw a straight line.” The ability to draw a straight line does not make one creative. Everything we do shows creativity. My students learn through the art activities we do in class that they are creative and that there are many ways to be creative. I find it so exciting that my TK students know the different materials and say things like, “Yes!, we are using oil pastels today.” Or that my middle school kids are not afraid to show their work, and be proud of it. Because our elementary students are exposed to at least one hour of art each week, and our middle school kids have art every day, they don’t say “I can’t.“ They just do. Can they draw a straight line? Who cares? They are creative regardless.
My Project
The Sakura gelly roll pens will be used to highlight and complete water colors paintings with my Transitional Kindergarten, Kindergarten, First Grade, Second Grade and Third Grade Students. These students are excellent artist that love trying new things and new materials in art class. Once a week they come to art class excited to see what awesome piece of art they will be creating. These gelly roll pens will be such a great addition to our supplies. It is truly amazing to see what these kids can achieve each week. I feel so fortunate to be able to guide them through lessons each week and to see the tremendous amount of pride they have in their work!
