Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
At our high school, we emphasize the important of family and our seven core values: respect, responsibility, trust, integrity, perseverance, teamwork, and courage. These values do not sit in a dusty binder at the bottom of our desks, but in fact it drives our social and academic interactions with staff and students. This school is so special because it knows that even with the smartest students and gifted teachers, a school is only as good as the culture it sets. We integrate our values into our curriculum and daily messaging with kids to develop the whole student. Because we focus on culture first, the academic and social elements of high school come more easily and flow more naturally throughout the course of the day. It allows us to keep rigor and hopes high!
My Project
These tripods will make it easy for every teacher to film themselves teaching a lesson or specific activity.
Our staff culture of constructive feedback makes these tripods an essential tool!
Here is how it works: as a staff, we decide on a focus for the semester: labs, discussion, text-interaction, etc... Based on our professional development goals, we will use the tripods to capture film which will later be used as demonstrations in department and staff meetings.
Instead of leaning phones up against books or having students hold our phones, we are free to capture a student-facilitated discussion about current events, or a group's interaction in the chemistry lab, or students thinking out loud about effective reading strategies. Later, we (as teachers) can watch ourselves teach and meaningfully reflect to make ourselves better teachers in order to help our students!
