This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I love my third grade student's because they are resilient and come to school willing to start new every day. Students in my building consist of over 80% from families of poverty. Despite the lack of resources and social experiences, the majority of students have a desire to learn and grow from the educators who teach them.
It is my hope and desire to continue to offer educational experiences which will give students the kinds of opportunities that make a difference.
My Project
I would like to give students the opportunity to plant and grow their own vegetables. Students will plant seeds in the classroom and watch them grow into seedlings. The root viewers will help them understand the science behind how plants grow underground. Students will then transplant their plants them into the raised be garden. Also, students will take home a seedling to plant at home.
It is my desire to have students develop a love of gardening through these experiences.
Students will plant Marigolds, sunflowers, carrots, tomatoes and cucumbers. They will also learn how to take care of the garden by regularly watering and weeding.
