Watching My Garden Grow

My Students

My school has been closed for the rest of this school year. We are now trying to find assignments that will interest students who are confined to their homes. Only a few of my students have access to the internet and even fewer have electronics at home where they can receive assignments.

The students in my classroom have been assigned to my Alpha, or emotional disturbance, self-contained classroom.

Every child in my classroom has been diagnosed with a disability that negatively impacts their ability to control their behavior.

There are no bad kids in my class, but there are kids who have experienced and continue to experience trauma. This trauma has impacted their desire and ability to study or even apply themselves. They question what they can accomplish. They don't feel they can succeed. It is my job to teach them they can succeed and to help them become successful in a general education environment.

My Project

I am working on lesson plans that will keep my students engaged and allow them to focus on something they can do to help during this stressful time. This project will allow my students to learn about planting, watering, fertilizing, and growing vegetables. While growing these plants, they will be documenting the growth through essays, graphs, and drawings. I will be able to connect with them through phones, online, or pictures.

This project will give them something productive to work on, and when the vegetable is ready to be harvested, be able to share with their family.

The materials I am asking for will be used to document their project.
