Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Curious, enthusiastic, and creative; my students are eager to immerse themselves in any kind of challenge. Although they come from many backgrounds and cultures, one thing they do have in common is that most come from very low-income families. They have had many struggles and challenges, but they strive to be successful no matter what comes before them. Some struggles they have are that they are still recovering from Hurricane Harvey, they do not have both parents' support, and they do not have the resources available to continue to strive.
As I am their teacher, I am also their student, because I learn from them each day as well.
They are energetic, active, engaged; and provide their own challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find resolutions! They come to school each day ready to try new things, and they are courageous, although they face many challenges. I only want them to have chances in order to grow both personally and academically. Truly, they are my inspiration!
My Project
I remember when I was a child we were always asked "whatcha reading?", now it seems we always ask, "whatcha looking at?". One of my favorite days at school was when we visited the library, and I was able to go home to show my parents the awesome book I checked out and couldn't wait to read. Now our children are looking for the new app or social media trend. With my project, I hope to inspire my students to read more and get excited about reading again. Through the scholastic magazines and book library, my students will get an opportunity to stay up to date on current events in education and reintroduce themselves to books that inspire them to want to read more.
