Our PE department is excited about the opportunity to be granted a storage cart for a class-set of badminton rackets and birdies.
Our students LOVE playing badminton and cannot wait to get on the court!
What our PE department finds is that we have multiple classes during the same period that would be in need of badminton rackets, birdies, and safe daily storage in between classes to minimize damage to the rackets. With 48 to 50 in a freshman class and around 43 in a Net Sport class, there are about 100 students who want to play during the same period. Using the Auxiliary Gym and the Main gym we could see the 90 to 100 students with rackets in their hands, moving, strategizing, and enjoying the interaction with classmates during games.
One of the district goals for "Social and Emotional Well-Being" and one of our DVHS Physical Education goals (Students demonstrating knowledge of psychological and sociological concepts, principles, and strategies that apply to the learning and performance of physical activity) can be enhanced having enough equipment for the students. Our students at DVHS are exposed to many stressors as they balance their studies and outside activities with family and friends. Physical activity such as the game of badminton allows the students not only to work on their motor skills and strategic thinking to play the game, but also incorporates social interaction as students work together as teams. An evidence of enjoyment and stress release are the smiles we see and laughter we hear on the courts as students play during class.
