Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My students are perseverant, compassionate and bright.
They like to play, they love to read and love lots of positive attention. Many of them are being raised in single parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical". From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hoping to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.
My Project
My students need nets to finally be able to play a true game of badminton. For years our students have not had the ability to engage in the sport of badminton. They learn the skills, practice their swings but never engage in the game because we lack the proper netting materials to hold a match.
My students bring so much energy into the playground.
As a second year P.E teacher, I want to foster their passion for sports and continue to make it grow. I enjoy finding new and creative ways to teach the importance of physical education and more importantly watching my students enjoy what they are learning. My students are very special! The atmosphere at our school is summed up in a few words: caring, positive, hard working, and family. I am very excited about this project in order to provide my students new and exciting materials throughout their years at our school.
I am trying to raise funds for an outdoor game equipment for our Physical Education class.
I would love to finally introduce my students to a true game of badminton. My students get to learn about the sport inside and outside of the classroom but because we don't have nets, the lessons stop here. I would love to finally give them the chance to put their skills and knowledge to the test with a game of badminton. These nets, and shuttlecocks would serve 141 students and each and every single one of them deserve a chance to experience this opportunity. With your help, my students will finally know what it is like to play badminton and not just watch videos of others playing it.
