My Students
My energetic students spend the majority of their day in my special education classroom and all of their core academic instruction in a small group. The students have significant cognitive and adaptive needs that qualified them for alternate assessment. They have Autism, intellectual impairments, Downs Syndrome, and physical disabilities. Some students also have non-English speaking families at home. These bright stars are a joy to teach. Each day is full of discovery and a new adventure! They love to learn!
My Project
This project will add six new flexible seating options for my dynamic learners. The wobble chairs will help students build core muscles while they are learning and playing in the classroom. By sitting in a wobble chair rather than in a regular chair, students will have to attend to how they are in control of their body. It is an "alerting" activity without jumping around! When students are more alert, they can focus their mental energy on their academic and skill based tasks.
The wobble chairs will provide additional choice in the classroom for seating.
Currently, I have mostly regular classroom chairs with move and sit cushions. Students will learn to choose what type of seat helps them learn! These options help promote self directed learning!
