Puzzles are great for logical thinking and paying attention, the Legos are fabulous for creativity, and the magnetic tile blocks are the newest toy to get kids interested in stem fields. What an added bonus! The magnetic tiles are also a great big hit. The scope of the towers and carts that the students are building are wonderful. They are also learning how to share materials and work together- a great skill for kindergarteners!\r\n\r\nYou can't imagine how much a NEW puzzle excites kindergarteners, especially a dinosaur puzzle! I was able to secure two identical dinosaur puzzles with your donation, so groups of students have side by side puzzle races on our front rug, which adds an excellent amount of playful competition in our classroom! The play dough designs the students are making are intricate and allow students to practice fine motor skills outside of holding a pencil or crayon. Play dough is also quite calming and theraputic! Of course EVERYONE wanted to try on the first day, so turn taking was also practiced! \r\n\r\nAnother great use of our new exercise toys is during indoor recess time when we cannot easily get outside due to extreme cold or extreme rain. This is the most opportune time to use our new toys to keep moving and to keep growing. My students practicing and playing games on our classroom stepping stones builds strength, balance, agility, and a sense of accomplishment in themselves that is as important as tradiitional reading, writing, and math. Focusing on light blues this year, I worked tirelessly with my student teacher to transform our classroom into a beautiful oasis for ourselves and our students. It was a new classroom and grade level for me this year. On the first day of school we entered a room that clashed with primary, pastel, and black and white color patterns. We quickly and admittedly haphazardly assembled bulletin boards and rearranged furniture to the best of our ability with the time restraints and work load we were faced with. At the end of those first few busy weeks, my student teacher turned to me and said, \"This room is ugly.\" I couldn't have agreed more. As she began to slowly take over different elements of our curriculum, I was offered a chance to stand back and take in the classroom and all of it's aesthetic and decorative flaws. We then jumped into action. In every spare moment we tore down old bulletin board paper, cleared bookshelves, and ordered new posters. Slowly but surely, beauty emerged in our space, with exception to one major flaw, our rug. Bold primary squares of red, green, blue, and stained yellow squares, outlined in black stood out against our vision of tranquility. When I went to look at rugs, I was shocked at the high price, but I knew my students deserved high quality. So I found Donors Choose and thanks to all of your generous giving, our room is complete! Now when people enter, they all say, \"this room is so beautiful\", not ugly! My students love the space. They have so much room to spread and stretch out. We sit together for morning meetings, and in the afternoon to listen to a read aloud. Throughout the day, students take space alone or with partners and small groups with clip boards or Chromebooks, or just a book, to take a break from their desk and chair and truly lean in to their learning. Thank you for making this all possible.","fullyFundedDate":1733182977202,"projectUrl":"project/a-beautiful-rug-to-enhance-our-learning/8905123/","projectTitle":"A Beautiful Rug to Enhance Our Learning Environment","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Kaela O’Neil","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9817063"},{"teacherId":4726292,"projectId":8664502,"letterContent":"I am extremely grateful for your generous contributions to my Grade Two MLL Classroom Manipulatives Project.
