This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My district has yet again embraced another explicitly taught reading program that specifically targets very limited readers at the high school level. We are going back and relearning the reading basics starting with letter sounds. Each day we review and broaden our reading repetoire.

It's not easy to get high school students to go back and learn how to read and spell cvc pattern words, since everyone assumes they mastered this back in elementary school, but we're doing it!

Every day we practice and eventually demonstrate mastery with the reading and spelling. It's a long process, but well worth the work.

It would be great to have targeted books, that match the sounds and patterns we're working on, for them to practice reading in real time.
