My Project
My students are kindergarten through 6th graders who are full of energy. They visit the Computer Lab once per week for a scheduled special. A select group of 3rd-5th graders come every morning for 90 minutes to participate in enrichment. In addition, teachers send students to the library/lab to complete a task or come for a full class activity. Some also come during recess for fun or to mentor younger students. The students have adapted to the challenges thrown at them this past year and are not only surviving but thriving in this very different environment. My students come from very diverse backgrounds. They love reading diverse books, participating in maker space activities and STEM challenges and are very curious. There are over 1,400 students in our school! I have a large population of English language learners. They are eager to learn and enjoy every minute of it. My students are both general and special education students. They are all amazing kids!
In the winter, my students absolutely love to listen to read aloud for literary enjoyment, no additional assignment, just a love of reading.
As an added treat, we will surprise them with cookies and hot chocolate on a cold winter day. Cookies, cups, hot cocoa and marshmallows will make it happen! We can also send home a hot chocolate packet the day before a snow day and enjoy the delicious fortune cookies, and even write our own fortune when studying the year of the rabbit for Chinese New Year!
