Warm & Welcoming Speech Room

Help me give my students a welcoming and organized classroom filled with a rug, whiteboard, cabinet, and floor mats to use for circle time, a printer to make materials, and Clorox wipes to keep the space clean!

My Students

My students are all hardworking superstars that come from various backgrounds, socioeconomic levels, and have varying needs. I serve students from preschool through fifth grade that need extra help utilizing and enhancing their speech and language skills. My students have a varying range of speech and language delays from mild to severe.

This will be my third year as a speech language pathologist and my first year in a public school in a large city in California.

Because our students come from a variety of backgrounds and exhibit a wide range of needs, it is our job as educators to provide them with a safe, fun, and engaging environment. I want to provide a therapy room that fosters the multitude of learning styles and experiences that push my students to believe in themselves and feel comfortable in their own skin.

My Project

These materials will allow them access to flexible seating meaning that they can get up and move to the rug, table, or floor pillows, which allows many of them to focus for longer periods of time and finish their work with less distractions. As a speech therapist I believe that positivity and giving children choices typically have a positive impact on their learning and will allow them to better focus and grow each day.

These materials will also be used in order to facilitate my small group speech and language circles where we will be able to sit on the rug and share books, letter sounds, and all sorts of language enrichment.

The whiteboard will be used to model visuals for students who need visual cues and symbols to help them learn throughout circle time.
