The sensory toys and tools, books, and discussions that we've had have helped my students work on regulation and continue to make progress with their communication goals. \r\n\r\nWhen my students first tried the stretchy tunnel, they went in a steady loop through the tunnel over and over. We got to practice spatial prepositions (in, out, through) while they took turns. A few of them love the mermaid tail that gives leg pressure (and looks pretty cool too). One of my students that started out barely talking with me now recites Eric Carle books during speech time. Other students have practiced self-regulation techniques with the fun book \"Stop and Read this Book.\" They pretend to blow out candles and use all their senses to help ground their bodies and emotions. Other students love running around my room to find different color hands and bubbles on the walls, using movement and touch to work on language comprehension. \r\n\r\nExploring new things, ideas, and experiences is a cornerstone of expanding communication, and my students and I are so grateful for that gift.","fullyFundedDate":1756920398218,"projectUrl":"project/self-regulation-for-communication/9558920/","projectTitle":"Self-Regulation for Communication","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Polit","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8255618_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1643605969470","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8255618"},{"teacherId":421833,"projectId":9418457,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support. The speaker system has made a remarkable difference in how we teach and learn. With clear, high-quality sound, all students, especially those with hearing difficulties, can better follow instructions and fully engage in lessons. Teachers are now able to bring in audio clips, music, and interactive activities that make learning more dynamic and accessible. Whether in the classroom, the Multipurpose Room, or during outdoor activities, the speaker system has become an essential tool for making lessons come alive.\r\n\r\nWhat excites our students most is the interactive, engaging learning environment this technology creates. They love when lessons include music, read-alouds with strong audio, or sound effects that deepen their understanding of a story or concept. The system helps capture and hold their attention, and students often comment on how much easier it is to hear and participate. It's also a cost-effective way for our school to provide high-quality instruction, something especially important given budget constraints.\r\n\r\nIn addition, the Giant Jenga set has become a favorite for both recess and classroom activities. Students eagerly gather to play, and through the game they practice teamwork, problem-solving, patience, and positive social interaction. One student who is usually quiet during recess has especially taken to Giant Jenga, finding it a fun way to connect with peers and show leadership in a low-pressure setting. Both the speaker system and Giant Jenga have brought more joy, collaboration, and engagement to our school community. Their squeals of joy were beyond infectious and heartwarming.\r\n\r\nThe back to school supplies have made such an amazing impact in our classroom especially during choice time, art time, literacy projects, and the amount of time it takes to transition inside our room. Before we got our new supplies, we were struggling with having enough supplies like paper, printer ink, play-doh, crayons, colored pencils, and water colors. Now, because of your kindness and generosity, the desk partners can each have their own supplies to share with only 1 partner instead of with a class of 27 students. The different centers are now the most popular center we have so students are motivated to finish their work correctly and on-time so they can go to that center.\r\n\r\nAgain, thank you so much for giving my class and students the supplies they need to be success and have fun as second graders!!!
