My students need socks, sweatshirts, and belts. So many of my students don't have cold weather clothing and just try and wear double t-shirts to stay warm.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I'm an elementary school counselor and work with all the students grades Kinder thru 5th. Our students come from a diverse low income community. A significant number are homeless or foster youth. Due to the high crime area and significant family stressors many students struggle with mental and physical health concerns and thereby struggle academically.
Despite everything going on in their lives, they are hard working, resilient, caring, and amazing kids who benefit from consistent support and encouragement by our school staff.
My Project
In the heat of summer it’s hard to think about cold weather clothing but every year my students need so much of it that I think about it year round. Many of my students come from low income and/or transitional/homeless housing situations with very limited financial supports. Their families need to worry about shelter and food and basic necessities first and often school loses its place as a priority. Clothing is challenging since Elementary students range so much in size its hard to have enough on hand to fit every need. Having this project funded would really make a difference.
Ultimately appropriate clothing helps students focus on school and learning rather than their basic needs.
