Wanted: One Graphing Calculator, New and Undamaged

My students need a graphing calculator to use for their algebra class.

My Students

Graphing calculators are wonderful things, but as we discovered, they are rather fragile! Please help us replace this damaged calculator, so that we aren't left trying to guess at the number behind the damaged bit of the screen.

My students are an extremely diverse group of 8th graders at an alternative school in a major city.

Most of them receive free lunch because of poverty at home, and many are living with home situations without the time, space, and assistance they might need to do homework.

My Project

Most algebra classes around the country these days require that students purchase their own graphing calculators. This technology is considered a vital part of being 'College-Ready.' My students certainly can't afford to buy their own. My school has managed to scrape together a class set of graphing calculators for them to use, but one of them has a damaged screen. It's possible to use it, but it's difficult and frustrating, especially for students who are grappling with technology that is completely new to them. Algebra is a huge challenge for many of my students, but they rise to it everyday. Please help us by replacing this damaged calculator!

Civil Rights leader Robert Moses founded the Algebra Project because he found that poor students of color in our country were not being provided with the resources and support needed for them to enter high school with an understanding of algebra.

These kids deserve the best educational opportunities we can give them. Please help!
