This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students live in North Minneapolis. This part of the city has seen its fair share of challenges in terms of poverty and crime present in the community. Despite these challenges, my students are positive, determined, hard working learners. They are courageous, they are overcomers, and they are resilient.
Our student population is made up of 85% of the students receiving free or reduced price lunch.
My students are a tight knit community of learners. They are smart, capable, loving students. My children deserve every opportunity and classroom enrichment experience.
My Project
My students are still in the beginning stages of reading. They love to enjoy the books we currently have in the classroom and look forward to reading time so they can dive into these books.
Our current leveled library is very old and many of the books are falling apart because of overextended use.
We do not have many books that are at the children's instructional level because they have fallen apart from old age and lots of use. This is frustrating for my kids who work hard to take care of our classroom things.
We would love to have an updated library with diverse titles and clean, sturdy books. The kids deserve it!
