My Students

If there is one thing about my students that makes them extraordinary, it's how well they can use technology. Sure, you hear those stories of students only knowing how to use video games, but that's not true in the slightest.

Every single day, my students navigate technology in the classroom: each of them zipping through assignments online and digital meetings for remediation on the Chromebook assigned to them through generous donors.

They're responsible, smart, and tech-savvy, developing skills that will definitely help them reach college-and-career-readiness standards.

The other thing that makes them so special? Our classroom family. The community doesn't describe the way that my students care for one another. They love playing games, working, helping, and learning with each other. It makes learning fun when everyone can participate, and my students love getting up to the board together and helping one another out with every concept we work on.

My Project

The ongoing COVID crisis has shown us the good and bad of technology, something I see in my classroom every day. My students get so much more experience with using computers and, yet, they are losing the connection that makes them such a stellar classroom family.

An interactive whiteboard and a projector will allow for my students to work together with easy-to-clean equipment and spacing to allow for social distancing while allowing them to collaborate as the community they are.

Rather than being stuck behind screens at their desks, they can get up, move, and act as a team safely to prevent the spread of the virus. It would also benefit my hybrid students on Zoom and make them feel even more of a connection as they would be projected and their classmates in-person can talk to them directly without having to go through me.
