This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our community school is very diverse where many backgrounds and languages are represented. For most of our students, English is not the primary language. As a result, my students face challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the challenges they face on an everyday basis, I am always looking to provide my students with meaningful learning experiences.

My students show up to school excited and ready to learn!

It is my goal to help my students not only reach the next reading level, but to keep my students motivated to learn.

My Project

Our school does not have a library, so my classroom library is an important part of our room. Since more than half of the books in our classroom library have come from donations throughout my fourteen years of teaching, many of our books are falling apart. It is time to makeover our classroom library! Recently, I have purchased on my own, the Diary of A Wimpy Kid series and I Survive series for our classroom library. These books can't stay on the shelves long enough because all my students want to read these high interest books!

My class has such an excitement for reading this year and it is my goal to continue this excitement!

I know that the best way to make an avid reader, is to allow students to read books that interest them! This is why this project is so meaningful. My students are requesting to add the Dog Man and Sailor Moon books to our classroom library. These sixteen books that my students are requesting will be a game changer during our independent reading block! Thank you for making a difference in my students' lives by helping me support their love for reading!
