I am a PreK teacher! I am so excited to able to offer the children in my class a wonderful first experience to school and learning. I want to instill the love of learning in their little minds!
I teach at a low income, inner-city school in Indianapolis.
While our students have some struggles to overcome, they are eager to learn!
One hundred percent of my students are eligible for the free breakfast and lunch program. We also are providing our students a daily snack through a grant program.
My Project
This year we have created puppets from paper bags, paper plates and paper cutouts on popsicle sticks. My students love to put on puppet shows!
I would love to provide my students with a puppet theater!
When they retell the stories, they are practicing their conversational skills while learning to take turns. Some of my students are English language learners. Having a fun way to practice their new language would help them tremendously. The students are also using their imaginations to create new stories or new endings to the stories they have heard in class.
All of these skills will help them tremendously in Kindergarten. Puppet shows are a fun way for them to practice comprehension, retelling and oral language skills.
