My Students

The students at our middle school need care. They have been through so much through this pandemic and that shows in their behavior. These students are very loved and cared for at school. They craze structure and a thriving art department. I am the only art teacher in the building and it is up to me to give them the platform to express what they feel and are going through in these extremely challenging and confusing times. These students show interest in sculpture and working with their hands. They need supplies and resources that they can create something big to be proud. These students don't always get the emotional support and understanding from the people around them. They are crying out for help. I want to provide that for them in the classroom so they can understand they can express their thoughts through the practice of art making.

My Project

I have my first two weeks already planned. Every day they are doing a different mini lesson on drawing. "Found Object" will be our first mini lesson that they need to complete. This is inspired by an artist that is on Netflix "Christoph Neimann". The next one they will do is inspired by Julia Rothman where students will sketch things they want to bring into 2022 and things they want to leave this project is called "Less and More 2022" Drawing. I need these sketch books so students can have one thing to keep all their work in. A sketchbook to an artist is more important than the final project itself. This is where artists learn, grow, and develop their skill as a drawer, painter, and creative thinker. In every project we do this semester they will be using their sketch book. This is the most useful material we could have all semester.
