Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are diverse, enthusiastic, and excited to start the new school year. They are 75% reduced lunch children who are always looking for new and innovative ways to learn.
As my mixed special needs and general education students begin seventh grade, they will have to accustom themselves to the new requirements of not only a different grade level but of an ever-changing world of requirements.
They must take a high stakes test toward the end of the school year, and every possible tool that we can bring to their disposal can only lead to their success for this school year, and onto their academic career.
My Project
My students will be able to physically hold this novel in their hand. They will be able to use post its to annotate the novel before they come to class to discuss the remarkable trip that Salva and Nya take in order to access water for themselves and their families, as well as the religious struggles of the Sudanese people, an all true reality for many students today.
Imagine having ripped copies of a novel, missing pages and covers, in order to read a remarkable novel such as A Long Walk to Water.
We want our students to be able to physically have a novel in their hand to have access to the novel and the self-reflecting story of Salva and Nya.
