My Students

My students are eager 3rd graders with a hunger to read chapter books! These amazing kids endure hardships at home, but come to school ready to do their best and soak up knowledge! Over the course of the year, my students are working on critical thinking skills, fluency, and written response to text. They are making the transition between learning to read fluently, and reading to learn and enjoy literature. My students have a passion for great books and crave the popular titles that engage them as readers.

My Project

These walk kits are an engaging way for students to build their comprehension and literacy skills, while participating in physical activity! Each kit is loaded with hundreds of kid friendly podcasts which are all connected to Common Core standards! Students can learn about several different topics while engaging in physical activity!

This project will help me to meet the needs of all my students with an alternative learning style!

Now my students with ADHD and learning disabilities as well as those learning English will have an alternate way to learn besides sitting through lectures. Many of my students are below grade level, and these walking sets will make a huge impact on their early literacy skills.

Research shows that there is a link between exercise and cognitive function! Now I won't have to sacrifice instructional time to take brain breaks. My students will be able to take 20 minute brisk walks to release energy and focus on listening to the topic we select! These kits also come with lesson plans so that I can get the most out of every podcast! I believe these kits will help my students to retain information, improve behavior issues, and perform better on classwork and standardized tests.
