My Students

My students are fuel for my soul. They are the reason I return to the library classroom year after year. Their backgrounds are as diverse as the books in our library. Some students’ families have lived in our rural, country district for generations, while others are part of the exponential growth our area has experienced over the past few decades. Our students come to school ever day excited and eager to learn.

I strive to make the library space visually appealing and intentionally arranged for my students in pre K - 4 to maximize their learning outcomes every time they choose to use the library.

Our library learning may look different this school year due to the Coronavirus but I will continue to provide instruction to our students whether it's in the library space or in their own classrooms, or even virtually.

My Project

The Walking Classroom program is simple: Pandas take brisk 20-minute walks as a class while listening to the same custom-written, kid-friendly podcast that comes preloaded on their WalkKit (audio player) Each podcast begins with a brief health literacy message and includes a character value woven throughout the narrative. The lesson plans and quizzes in the available Teacher’s Guide help educators effectively discuss and review the podcast material.

Aligned to state standards, the podcast topics are appropriate for Pandas in grades 3 & 4, and potentially younger grades with some scaffolding in place.

Podcasts topics include English language arts, social studies, science, and more.

These WalkKit audio players can be shared among classes with proper sanitizing and reused year after year.
