Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

I am the Pre-K teacher at our school, which is a title 1 year-round school serving many wonderful students. I also teach remediation to Kindergarten and 1st Grade students after school, as well as remediation to any grade level during our three week intercessions. One thing that all these students have in common is their need for and love of movement to music as well as their ability to learn many objectives through rhyme, rhythm, music, and movement. The first thing I enjoy each morning with my students is a movement activity to get the blood circulating and prepare all of us to be better learners. It is equally important to employ this same strategy with my students during remediation and intercession. I also find it valuable to take frequent breaks from our academics to allow movement. These breaks actually serve to make our time on tasks much more productive for both teacher and students. I also find that learning skills through singing is a great teaching tool whether it be learning the alphabet, the days of the week, counting or learning to make rhyming words, to mention a small percentage of the uses for my request. We would all love to have some CD's to use to facilitate these experiences. The CD's I have in mind will enrich our environment, wake us all up to prepare us to be better learners, provide us with breaks as needed and facilitate learning many of the objectives in our curriculum. They will be very well used and add delight to our learning. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider my proposal and for caring about the children whom we serve.
