Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My scholars are wonderful children growing up in a very diverse community. Located in the heart of the East Bay, they are encouraged and challenged to voice their opinion and stand for what they believe is right. Many of our students are actually transfers from Oakland.
They are eager to learn science and help out their community in any way that they can.
With technology becoming more prevalent in our classrooms, our students and our teachers need to be up-to-date. My scholars are so hardworking and make good decisions every day. However, anyone who is involved with the educational system knows that a huge effort goes to motivating our students. As I grow professionally, I am always looking for ways to improve and inspire my scholars.
My Project
Our school has created a brand new STEM/Engineering/Maker's Space class. One of the projects that came to mind was to build a race car to implement engineering and science practices.
With your help, our students can build race cars and learn about friction, kinetic and potential energy!
The materials listed here are all reusable for future classes and students to use over and over again. The toy wheels and the axels can be built and taken apart over and over again. Therefore, students in my future classes can reuse these materials and still learn the basic necessities for this project.
The masking tape is used to help piece together the tires and axels. The sandpaper will be used to help the students sand their work and make the race car life like. The wood glue is to help piece the axel and wheels together. And on race day, the inflatables will help create that climate that students will get so excited to be in. I plan to host a race day and invite other classmates and families to join in and see their hardwork.
Instead of lecturing students and having them use virtual applications, our students have this amazing opportunity to build a physical cart and see how their handy work come to life on the race track! This project is designed to help them bring out their creativity, learning STEM practices, and learning how to work together as a team.
