My Students

My students come from all walks of social and economic backgrounds. They might not have very comfortable lifestyles at home, but I want them to be comfortable when they come to school, especially in the art studio. The more "homey" and safe it is, the better they feel that the art studio belongs to them.

Having ownership in the art studio is what makes the students be more themselves and to showcase their unique personalities.

Allowing them to feel comfortable and safe in the art studio is all I want for them. The more colorful the art studio allows them to enjoy the class and have an appreciation for art.

Being in a cold, dreary art studio does not bolster creativity. Art studios are supposed to help their imagination and creativity to grow and inspire my students.

My Project

Watercolor paints are a great medium for elementary art students to use as beginning artists. Watercolors can be used with just a simple technique of adding water to the brush and swirling it into the color. Sometimes artists have used more advanced techniques with watercolor that they can create images, like a glass of water, look very realistic.

Watercolors, although a basic medium in the art world, can send a child's imagination soaring!

When watercolors are used, the yellows and the blues are used up quicker than the other colors. Having these refills can help keep the child's imagination from stopping in their tracks.

I want to give my students more opportunities to use watercolors in the next few years than I have this past school year.
