Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from low socioeconomic households and many of them are the first to graduate high school and attend college or trade school. They are both excited and hesitant about the idea of committing to a college and major for potentially the next four years. I strive to create a classroom environment where students feel safe to explore what they want to do in the future through our Independent Study class. This headset will benefit students for years to come as we can build upon VR resources available to students who take classes that explore their various interests and give them exposure to their interests.
Utilizing the VR headset to get a more realistic job, career field, and college experience in the classroom before committing to a major will save students both time and money in the long run.
Taking the educational risk to explore all of their various interests will help them figure out what they truly want to do in the future. This even opens up the doors for new jobs, careers, and college areas they may have never thought of before because they were previously afraid to take the risk. Additionally, using the VR headset will allow students to feel as if they are right in the action and exploring just like they were playing a game!
